Silver Linings Playbook

THE BOOK,
written by Matthew Quick, is about a person with mental illness who struggles with separation from his wife. It becomes apparent very soon there is more going on with his “wife” than the character perceives.
WHY I PICKED IT UP
I saw a commercial for the movie, then read the novel summary which I thought sounded absurdly funny.
WHERE/WHY I STOPPED
I read to the end of the free sample and enjoyed it. The author’s brisk pace keeps the narrative interesting. Ultimately I didn’t find it interesting enough to buy, but  I might check it out from the library.
WHAT COULD BE BETTER, IF ANYTHING
I found it difficult to identify with the main character, and I’m not sure I remember his name. The narrative is mostly stream of consciousness with little dialogue—which the author deftly manages to keep interesting—but it comes at the expense of character.

RECOMMENDATION: READ
The author is skilled at holding your interest and the promise of exploring his wife’s relation to him is enticing. Tell me what you think.
